Our Summer Wwoofing
Have you ever considered WWOOFing? Or have you even heard of it?
We first learned about it a couple of years ago. WWOOFing stands for Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms. It’s a fantastic way to gain insight and hands-on experience in what it takes to run an organic farm, all in exchange for accommodation in a beautiful rural setting.
In the summer of 2024, we volunteered at The Apple Farm a stunning farm and glamping site in the heart of rural England, and we absolutely loved the experience. It was a rich and rewarding experience for our boy’s home education!
The boys had a blast getting involved and enjoyed learning more about growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables, caring for animals, pruning and tending to the land.
They also got involved in DIY and building projects such as helping their Dad with the build of an outdoor bathroom, treating wood and painting.
As a family we also got a real understanding of what it takes to run a campsite.
We spent the summer immersed in nature, surrounded by wildlife, and met lots of wonderful like-minded people, forming lasting friendships along the way.
There are sooooo many similar kinds of opportunities like this, not just in the UK but all over the world. Wwoof.net is a great place to start to learn more about it. The Alternative Lifestyle and Green Living Facebook group also has lots of opportunities posted so we’d recommend checking that out too.
As we continue to grow our homestead, we plan to open Wwoofing opportunities on our Quinta, and want to make it as fun, and rewarding experience as possible.
It’s definitely something we’d do again as a family in the future, when we travel again!
